So many directions, choices, and experiences to place my attention that I often wonder how I reached the position I am today. September 10 is World Suicide Prevention Day. Every 15 minutes someone dies of suicide. In the past year 1.1 million Americans attempted suicide and over 34,000 died. Suicide is the 11th leading cause of death in the country. The problem is even more staggering among our youth: suicide is the third leading cause of death among 15-24 year olds. 6.3% of U.S. high school students attempted suicide in 2009, with girls being significantly more likely to do so than boys (8.1% versus 4.6%, respectively).
